First Plane Landing on a Ship
100 years ago today, Eugene Ely, a 26-year-old automobile racer-turned-aviator, landed a biplane on the deck of the Navy cruiser Pennsylvania--the first landing of an airplane on a ship--right here in San Francisco.

Design Inspiration
